Dear Collaborators,
Solar activity has reached a high level. Both NOAA 13663 and NOAA 13664 produced a number of significant magnitude flares, each producing separate X1.0 flares at 01:48 UT today and 04:37 UT today, respectively. NOAA 13663 has shown a slight decay in area as it undergoes its transit of the northwest limb. NOAA 13664 has further grown to an area of 630 μh and has produced a greater number of significant flares since the last message. The Major Flare Watch will continue and the target region will now switch to NOAA 13664, however attention should still be paid to NOAA 13663 for potential limb flares. Additional M-class activity is expected, with a good chance for further >M5 activity in the next 24 hours. The position of NOAA 13664 on 08-May-2024 at 11:30 UT is: S20W16, (247",-275") See http://www.SolarMonitor.org for images and http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/ops/observing.shtml for a description of the current Max Millennium Observing Plan.
