ISG/Microsoft Ireland Seminar
- Prof. Andrew Blake of Microsoft Research Cambridge will present a seminar entitled "Computer Science and Illusion: A Computational View of the Interpretation and Manipulation of Images" at 7:30 pm on Sep 6 in the Ernst Walton Theatre in the Arts Building. Please register here if you would like to attend.
Welcome Reception and Conference Dinner
- A cheese and wine welcome reception will be held in the Physics
Building at 7-9 pm on Tuesday evening.

restaurant is within walking distance of the conference location.
Abstract Booklet and Workshop Schedule
Announcement
The 3rd Solar Image Processing Workshop (SIPWorkIII) will again bring
together researchers in image processing and solar physics, this time
to focus on challenges presented by new instrumentation. Of
particular interest will be new ground based instrumentation such as
the Advanced Technology Solar
Telescope (ATST), Swedish
Solar Telescope (SST) and Dutch
Open Telescope (DOT), as well as future space instrumentation on
board the STEREO, Solar-B and
SDO satellites.
The workshop will be hosted by the School of Physics, Trinity College
Dublin on 6-8 September, 2006. The meeting will be a 3 day workshop of
50-100 participants, featuring talks, posters and breakout/open-ended
discussion sessions. In keeping with previous workshops, we emphasize
that we are looking for topics that will be of interest to both the
image processing and solar physics communities. Given the success of
the working (WG) group format in previous Solar Image Processing
Workshops, we encourage presentations in the following areas:
- WG1: 3D tomography and visualisation of the corona and heliosphere (Group leader: TBD).
- WG2: Real-time data analysis and assimilation (Group leader: TBD).
- WG3: Fundamental image processing and statistics (Group leader: Alex Young).
New! Birds-of-a-feather session on future directions in
software for solar data processing. What is the future for
SolarSoft? What role will Virtual Observatories play in up-coming
missions? How do we prepare for high data-volumes, large modelling
efforts, etc? What about languages: GDL vs. IDL vs. PDL vs. Python?
